Who is playing MODOK in the MCU and why does Jim Carrey’s name keep popping up in the conversation?

As reported by CBR, a recent rumor suggested that Jim Carrey had been cast as MODOK in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This rumor has had fans talking for weeks, and it stems from a particular forum on Reddit.

The moderators of a subreddit called r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers suggested that Carrey had not only been cast as MODOK already but that he could appear in multiple Disney Plus projects. It has also been speculated that he could make an appearance in the Peyton Reed film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Who is playing MODOK in the MCU?

Although many rumors had fans thinking Jim Carrey would be playing MODOK in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Carrey is not part of the cast nor does he play the role of MODOK in the MCU. Instead, the role of MODOK is played by actor Corey Stoll, who portrayed the villainous Darren Cross a.k.a. Yellowjacket in Ant-Man.

MODOK was launched into the mainstream back in May when the streaming platform Hulu aired the adult-orientated stop-motion animated sitcom, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. Centering on the character, it was co-created by and starred Patton Oswalt as the titular entity. Jordan Blum served as showrunner along with Oswalt.

Consisting of ten episodes, the series featured the voice cast of Aimee Garcia, Ben Schwartz, Melissa Fumero, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Beck Bennett, Jon Daly and Sam Richardson. It was praised by critics for its marvelous animation, voice acting, writing and references to other Marvel media.
