Will Wong make it out of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness alive?

Wong is one of the the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s most beloved characters. A mentor and friend to the Ancient One and Stephen Strange, he respects the mystical and magical world that the Sorcerer Supreme walks in and does whatever he can to preserve it.

Portrayed by Benedict Wong, the character has appeared in Doctor StrangeAvengers: Infinity WarAvengers: EndgameShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home. That’s actually a lot of appearances considering we’re only talking about the most recent five years in a 13-year old franchise.

He’s next set to return in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and it’s that appearance that has some wondering if it could be the last time we see him.

With the film almost upon fans, what awaits Wong in the Doctor Strange sequel? Let’s discuss.

Will Wong die in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

The concern over Wong’s safety in Multiverse of Madness started right around the time that the first trailer for the movie was released. In that trailer, the character is seen wounded and bound as he looks ahead rather fearfully. While the trailer did not reveal what was on the other end of his gaze, fans instantly speculated about the possibility of what it meant.

If you look closely, you’ll see that Wong is bound by mystical red energy. That kind of energy is synonymous with Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch – the same character who many think will be the movie’s unexpected villain, especially after we last saw her in WandaVision reading from the Darkhold, a.k.a. the Book of the Damned

Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising her role as Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and, with all the rumors surrounding Wanda’s role, it’s looking likely that she could play an antagonistic part in the plot. This has not been confirmed, but it is very possible, especially when you factor in that the Scarlet Witch is even more powerful than the Sorcerer Supreme and she might have been corrupted by the Darkhold.

Speaking of the Sorcerer Supreme, one fan theory from journalist Matt Ramos, a.k.a. SUPES, suggested that Wanda may in fact kill Wong so that the film can solidify her as a threat not to be taken lightly. And, as the character currently holds the title of the Sorcerer Supreme (a technicality as a result of Strange being blipped out of existence by Thanos), Doctor Strange would then reclaim the title.

The question is: Would Wanda be capable of such a thing from a character standpoint, and would there ever be a way she could come back from it? And, more importantly, will Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness be the last time we see Wong in the MCU?
