The Boys season 3: 8 crucial moments from episode 7
By Mark Lynch
4. Butcher’s past
Hughie, Soldier Boy, and Butcher were looking for Payback’s Mindstorm. When they find him, Mindstorm puts Butcher to sleep and makes relive his worst nightmare. Butcher relives the physical and verbal abuse his father and his little brother Lenny faced. As bad as that was, it wasn’t the worst of it. Butcher sees that he’s become just like his father and Hughie is Lenny.
If you thought that Butcher would become a different person after that incident, you’d be wrong. He still focused on nothing but killing Homelander. Annie tells Butcher that Compound V24 kills people after three uses and doesn’t tell Hughie. It’s bad enough that Butcher doesn’t care about his life. It’s worse that he doesn’t care about Hughie’s.
3. Kimiko wants her powers back
Kimiko lost her abilities after Soldier Boy hit her with his radiation powers. At first, she was happy – so much so that she had a dream she was in a musical. She thought the powers made her ruthless. After she and Frenchie were captured, she had to go to a violent place in her to save them. Kimiko finds out that it wasn’t the powers that made her violent.
This may be the saddest moment of the season. For the first time in Kimiko’s life, she was happy. She could dance with Frenchie and maybe start a relationship with him. But it wasn’t on the cards for her. Kimiko asked Annie to get Compound V so she could be a supe again. The end of the episode shows Kimiko regaining her abilities while Frenchie holds her.
