Marvel fans were left in shock after seeing Chris Evans return as Captain America in this jaw-dropping MCU concept poster for an original Disney Plus series.

Chris Evans portrayed the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America across seven films (not including cameos) beginning with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. And while fans didn’t know it at the time, Evans’ final appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least for the time being, came in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Although Avengers: Endgame seemed to bring an official end to Steve Rogers’ story and role as a part of the Avengers team, fans have long been theorizing about a possible return for Evans ever since the moment the Endgame credits finished rolling.

A return for Evans’ character might be tricky in the present timeline, but there are definitely a number of ways Marvel could explore revisiting the character of Steve Rogers without tarnishing the character’s exit story or stepping on Sam Wilson’s toes.

One idea that has been tossed around by many fans is the idea of Evans returning as Captain America in a project exploring how exactly he returned the Infinity Stones to their correct timelines before returning in the final arc of Avengers: Endgame. And thanks to the incredible concept art from one digital artist, we get the chance to see Evans back in action as Captain America in a project which could make the perfect addition to Marvel’s Disney Plus line-up.

Chris Evans stuns in Captain America: Man Out of Time fan poster

Envisioning a return for Marvel’s first Avenger, artist spideyvegas took to Instagram to share an incredible poster envisioning Evans’ return as Captain America in his very own Disney Plus original series.

Set against the backdrop of Vormir, home to the Soul Stone, Evans’ dons his iconic Captain America suit, his shield strapped on his back with the case containing the Infinity Stones plucked from time. Because no poster is complete without an official title, the artist ties the concept together with the title “Captain America: Man Out of Time” in a font inspired by past Captain America films.

The poster is truly magical and makes a compelling argument for why Marvel should consider a limited series starring Evans in the role. And the best part of the concept is that it wouldn’t complicate the amazing plans in the works with Antony Mackie’s Captain America, as the series would be set in the past similar to what we saw with the Black Widow film.

Is Chris Evans returning as Captain America in the MCU?

While it’s only been a few short years since Evans last appeared in the MCU and hung up Cap’s shield, fans are hungry for more of Evans and Steve Rogers in the MCU.

Given the way in which his storyline ended, it’s unlikely we’ll see Evans back in action in any present-era set MCU films but a prequel project such as a Disney Plus series would be an incredible way to bring the character back for one last adventure.

A Disney Plus series telling the story of Steve’s journey through time to return the Infinity Stones to their rightful timeline would be an incredible way to give fans one last chance to see Evans suit up as Cap one more time. Plus think about all the memorable moments and fun cameos the show could provide as Steve travels through time returning the stones before finally returning to Peggy and starting their life together!

While fans have made it clear they’d love to see a Disney Plus series centering around Evans’ Captain America in a series designed to fill in the gaps between when Cap leaves to return the Infinity Stones to their proper place in the timeline, the odds of the series becoming a reality remain unclear.

Evans seemed to make it clear his days as Steve Rogers/Captain America were officially behind him and that he has no plans to pick back up Cap’s shield as filming on Avengers: Endgame ended. However, just last year Deadline reported Evans was circling a deal to return for “at least one Marvel property, with the door open for a second film.” Reports at the time suggested the return would not be for a new Captain America film but rather in a capacity similar to Robert Downey Jr.’s role in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Fast forward to today and Evans’ return to the MCU has yet to happen, but the Marvel star continues to drop cryptic hints about a possible return. Just this month during his People’s Sexiest Man Alive interview, Evans confessed to missing his time in the MCU so who knows, maybe he’ll find inspiration to return as Captain America in some capacity again in the future.
