9. Planet of the Apes (2001)

Whenever the word remake starts to get bandied about, people rightfully get a little worried and possibly upset. Their favorite film could be getting remade and when you are close to something it can be startling to see it changed.

In the case of Tim Burton’s remake of Planet of the Apes, people were right to be worried. Burton misses the point entirely and seems to attempt to undo everything that the original series put into place over five films. Mainly, the social commentary about how man destroyed man and gave birth to the rise of the apes.

In this version, there is no dispute between the chimp scientists and the militaristic gorillas. There are no apes building a culture on the ashes of humanity. This film, for lack of a better word, is an abomination.

Although the film performed decently at the box office and remains one of the most commercially successful films in the franchise, 2001’s movie was a black mark on the entire Planet of the Apes franchise. We wish there was a place lower than worst that we could put it on this list, as even the No. 9 spot on a list of the Top 9 movies seems to high.
