10. Fast & Furious

  • Release Year: 2009
  • Director: Justin Lin
  • Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, John Ortiz, and Laz Alonso

Fast & Furious is the fourth movie of the franchise, following Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The film brings Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and some of the other key stars of the first two movies.

In the film, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) reunite and team up to stop Arturo Braga (John Ortiz), a drug lord. Brian is working for the FBI and trying to take down Braga’s operation, while Dom seeks revenge because he believes Braga is responsible for the death of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).

Overall, Fast & Furious is still trying to find the story compared to the most recent installments of the franchise. Following Fast & Furious, the story and characters fall into place in a way that works much better.

I do have to say, though, after watching Fast and Furious on my latest re-watch for this ranking, this movie holds up a lot better than I remember. The story is not quite as tight, but you can see the kernals of ideas that paved the way to Fast X and beyond. This was the reset the franchise needed even if it didn’t seem like it at the time.
