Secret Invasion: 5 best moments from Episode 1
By Wesley Bell
1. The Unity Day attack
The main goal of Fury’s crew the entire episode was to prevent the next terrorist attack by the Skrull leader Gravik and the rebellion, which they learned from G’iah would be carried out at the Unity Day celebrations. However, on the day of, things go awry.
After distracting Hill and Talos with decoys, Gravik sets his sights on Fury. He lures him away, shapeshifting between the various characters from throughout the episode. Moving through the crowd, Gravik slickly transitions between being the woman Fury saw on the park bench, the little girl with the ball he encountered on his walk, and the man he spoke to at the bar before ultimately revealing his regular human form, hinting that the character was keeping a closer eye on Fury than he realized.
Before Fury can get close enough to confront him, Gravik sets off a series of bombs, destroying the plaza and killing at least dozens of innocent civilians. The real stinger, however, comes when Gravik shoots and seemingly kills Maria Hill while posing as Fury, making things even more personal. Despite his limited presence in the episode, this scene alone establishes Gravik as a clear threat that already has the potential to earn a spot on the franchise’s best villains list.
