9. Supergirl Season 5, Episode 19: Immortal Kombat

This episode was nothing without an epic showdown between Supergirl and the powerful villain, Leviathan. The CW did a good job once again pitting Supes (yeah I’m giving her the name) against one of the strongest villains of the series. The battle of course was epic, but there was something really familiar about this episode. DC Comics fans probably felt themselves thinking about “Death of Superman.”

On pages of DC Comics, Superman takes on Doomsday. While Supergirl faced Leviathan instead of Doomsday, the intense and consequential nature of the battle paid homage to the classic comic book arc. This nod to the source material added a layer of nostalgia for fans and deepened the significance of the conflict.

Who can forget the dynamic moment between Lena Luthor and her brother, Lex? The intense dialogue and emotional depth portrayed in this scene gave fans a deep look into the complicated relationship between the Luthors.

Another nugget came from the depths of the DC Universe, referencing the Legion of Super-Heroes. In this episode, viewers were introduced to Brainiac-5 and his connection to the Legion. We were in full geek-out mode. The nod to the Legion of Super-Heroes thrilled fans who appreciated the show’s dedication to embracing the larger DC mythos.
