When it comes to the nine most powerful Titans in the entire Attack on Titan universe, there is no mistaking that they have unfathomable prowess; strength so great that many shiver at the mention of their name. (And for good reason!)
These nine Titans stand at the very top and are only given to a select few who are capable physically and mentally of having them. But that doesn’t mean all of these titans are equal in strength. We believe there are some of the nine Titans who would fare better than others simply because of their build, power, and many other factors. This is why we think it’s time to rank all nine from weakest to strongest!
The Nine Titans are powerhouses but are not without flaws!
In case you didn’t know (or need a refresher), the nine Titans consist of the Armored, Attack, Beast, Cart, Colossal, Female, Founding, Jaw, and Warhammer Titan. For the most part, each Titan’s power cannot be altered according to the current holder’s strengths and/or weaknesses, which makes this ranking void of any power creep.
To that end, here is the first titan in our ranking — The Cart Titan, currently inherited by Pieck Finger!
9. Cart Titan
Height: 13 feet
Unique Abilities:
- Endurance
- Immense Speed
- Quadrupedal Form
In terms of strength, we definitely have to rank the Cart Titan as the weakest of them all.
This particular Titan isn’t necessarily meant for strength. Rather, this Titan is meant for utility, having the power to transport goods, people, and weapons to and fro with little to no problem. Also, the Cart Titan can stay in its form for prolonged periods of time, which goes to show how useful the Titan is when it comes to transportation.
While we never got a chance to see the Cart Titan in full-on battle, we can assume that where the Titan lacks in physical strength, it makes up for in mental strength. The current holder of the Titan, Pieck Finger, has immense wisdom and battle sense, making her a really great ally to have. However, wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with being the Cart Titan, hence why we can’t say this Titan would be our top pick if it ever came down to a battle of power.
What Could Make the Cart Titan Stronger: Physically, the Cart Titan needs a little more of everything. More muscle, more reliance on its two legs rather than all fours, and, most importantly, more use of those teeth. Granted, it’s not the Jaw Titan, but with that many teeth, we think it should find a way to bite a lot more.
8. Founding Titan
Height: 42 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Titan Creation
- Titan Behavioral Control
- Control of the Subjects of Ymir
There’s no mistaking that the Founding Titan‘s ability to control not just all Pure Titans but also the Subjects of Ymir is a skill that absolutely supersedes every one of the Nine Titans. This Titan can create an army that can trump over anything and anyone in its path with one simple command.
What’s more, since the Founding Titan is the sole Titan that holds this trump card, it’s one with abilities that simply cannot be replicated or removed. To that end, this is a Titan that is a force to be reckoned with.
The Founding Titan may be a Titan with mind-controlling abilities, but this Titan doesn’t seem like it’s meant for one-on-one fights. For example, the previous owner of the Titan, Frieda Reiss, was easily defeated by Eren’s father, Grisha, despite initially having the upper hand.
Additionally, the Founding Titan’s form doesn’t seem practical enough to engage in any fights since it tends to be very long and bony. (Take a look at Ymir Fritz’s version of the Titan. Then, see Eren’s form.) Although all Titans’ forms are luck of the draw, it seems like most inheritors of this Titan have run into a great deal of bad luck, as their Titans are often deformed or just too enormous to move.
What Could Make the Founding Titan Stronger: The control aspect of the Titan is perfectly fine and stable. If only we could say the same about the body of the Titan! If there was a way to ensure each Founding Titan was miniature but bulky (at the very least), then we would imagine it’ll be able to hold its own in a physical battle.
7. Jaw Titan
Height: 16 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Jaw Strength
- Hardened Claws
- Flight (Falco Grice only)
Seeing Ymir (Survey Corps) in her element, clawing through all those Titans who posed a threat to Historia (formerly Krista) and the other individuals who were trapped in the dangerous Titans, let us know that the Jaw Titan was one that we would absolutely want to have on our team if we needed one with speed and aptitude.
Clawing aside, the Jaw Titan can use its strong and sharp teeth to bite through anything. It’s safe to say that the Jaw Titan can rip through most enemies in one fell swoop because of its razor-sharp teeth and speed.
Unlike other Titans, we’ve witnessed the Jaw Titan in battle with three of its inheritors. Although Porco’s time was short-lived, he was definitely formidable when it came to tearing through the enemy’s defenses on the battlefield. This power wasn’t enough to win against Eren, but it was more than enough to let us know that Ymir’s skills weren’t a farce.
Last but not least is Falco Grice, the current holder of the Jaw Titan. Falco’s Titan is different from the others because it can fly. Flight amplifies the Jaw Titan’s skills because the Titan can now bite through planes, missiles, or anything that soars in the sky. For once, the small size of this Titan comes in handy, since the smaller it is, the longer it can fly.
What Could Make the Jaw Titan Stronger: Like the Cart Titan, the Jaw Titan is on the smaller side, making it one that could be easily overtaken by the bigger Titans. And while speed can certainly make up for the size, we’ve seen how quickly Titans like the Colossal and Attack Titan can so much as kick or punch smaller Titans and rid them absolutely useless. This is yet another Titan that can benefit from some more muscle!
6. War Hammer Titan
Height: 49 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Structural hardening
- Weapon creation (usually sharp weapons)
- Remote operation
Out of all the Nine Titans, the War Hammer Titan doesn’t have the best reputation amongst Attack on Titan fans simply because, against Eren, the previous holder of this titan, Lyra Tybur, stood little to no chance.
Lyra was decimated in seconds, leaving many to wonder if this Titan could really stand with the Nine or if it was just a fluke from the very beginning. However, despite the War Hammer’s quick defeat against the anomaly that is Eren, we don’t believe this Titan is weak in the slightest sense.
First and foremost, the War Hammer Titan is its own armory. It can mold most weapons from its body, which comes in handy whenever it cannot take on an enemy by brute force alone. Secondly, this Titan, like the Jaw Titan, has hardening abilities, making it more difficult for any enemy to easily tear through its flesh. But above all, the strongest ability of the War Hammer Titan is its remote operation.
The War Hammer Titan is different from the rest in that the individual controlling the Titan doesn’t have to be in the body. Rather, it can create a long cord that separates the Titan body from the human body, as seen with Lyra. This not only keeps the enemy from discovering the main body but also gives the human ample time to escape and set up another titan body once it cools down.
Sadly, we likely won’t get to see the War Hammer in action ever again. Even so, this titan made a great impression on us in its short time.
What Could Make the War Hammer Titan Stronger: It’s been said that the War Hammer cannot use its structural hardening for long, which definitely makes it a tad weaker since that’s one of this Titan’s greatest assets. If it could juggle using this ability while staying at its fullest strength, the War Hammer Titan may have been further down this list.
5. Beast Titan
Height: Dependant on inheritor (Zeke’s Beast Titan was 55 feet tall)
Top 3 Unique Abilities: Dependant on inheritor
The episode where we were introduced to the Beast Titan had to be one of the most hair-raising moments of the entire anime series. We have his undeniable, unfathomable, and unreal strength to thank for that. Of course, this is all thanks to the most recent holder of this Titan, Zeke Yeager.
Zeke’s Beast Titan took the form of an enlarged ape that could throw objects fast, far, and hard. It also could harden his flesh to be able to thwart those who wanted to get to the nape of the neck where his human body resides. What’s more, Zeke’s Titan was humungous (one of the tallest). So much so that the strongest soldier, Levi Ackerman, knew he couldn’t face him head-on without a solid strategic plan.
The previous Beast Titan, Tom Ksaver, is said to have been very strong, too. He took the shape of a sheep with big horns, which might have been useful for breaking through large obstacles. Still, Zeke’s Titan was far stronger, especially when it came to the conversion of Subjects of Ymir into Pure Titans; a talent given to Zeke because of his genealogy.
Creating armies of Titans, all of whom are bending to his will, invokes chaos too terrible to name. Those who bore witness to this power know the true fear of the Beast Titan.
As amazing as the Beast Titan is, the Titan isn’t without flaws since it can’t choose which form it takes. If Zeke’s Titan was something like a sea animal, then he would be next to useless if his enemy was surrounded by nothing but land. Or if his Titan was dependent on flight but the enemy was located underground, there’s no purpose for him. To that end, Zeke and Tom definitely lucked out.
What Could Make the Beast Titan Stronger: Again, Zeke was in a league of his own so there’s really not much that would make this Beast Titan stronger. If we had to say one, it would be having the choice of which beast it chooses, especially since the previous beasts included animals like whales and dinosaurs. (Imagine Zeke as a T-Rex!)
4. Attack Titan
Height: 49 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Great strength/durability
- Incredible speed
- Future memory inheritance
Since the Attack Titan is built for battle, it definitely ranks high on our list. It’s fast, strong, and, admittedly, one of the first of the Nine Titans we were introduced to, so it’s safe to say that this Titan, held by Eren Yeager, deserves its position.
Some of the most exciting fights of this anime involved the Attack Titan. This Titan won against most of his opponents — the Female Titan, the War Hammer Titan, and the Jaw Titan, to name a few — proving that it has what it takes to secure a victory with sheer strength and willpower. Also, coupled with the fact that the Attack Titan has so many allies, it would take a whole army to take out this one Titan. (And we’ve seen that it has!)
Even still, the Attack Titan still has some ways to go if it wants to hold the top spot and it’s largely due to the fact its powers just don’t compare to the remaining behemoths of this list.
Besides acquiring future memories, the Attack Titan’s powers are pretty limited. We’ve never really seen it acquire hardening skills, increase its jaw strength, or detach its head from its body. We haven’t seen it necessarily power up in strength either. With the Attack Titan, what you see is what you get, and while we are content with what we have, it would be nice to see a little more.
What Could Make the Attack Titan Stronger: With this Titan, it’s not a question of making the Attack Titan stronger. Rather, it’s mostly about how to make the remaining Titans weak enough to make this Titan look like the mightiest to ever exist. And since we can’t necessarily do that, the Attack Titan will have to stay put.
3. Armored Titan
Height: 49 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Hardened skin
- Great strength
- Decent Flexibility
Against most of its foes, the Armored Titan is a powerhouse that can overcome most of the things thrown its way. The Titan has gone toe-to-toe against an entire community (Eldia) full of hundreds of thousands of people, who all have intense hatred toward him for ruining their years of peace. Whether his identity was masked or not, the Armored Titan was known to all as the beginning of the end, a title that certainly isn’t given to those who don’t pose a threat to humanity.
The Armored Titan cannot be matched. Specifically, when it comes to its hardened skin since this provides a buffer against bullets, swords, and punches from other Titans like him. Of course, this level of increased protection helps against any enemy trying to get to the nape of its neck, too.
In our opinion, the Armored Titan has great flexibility to get in and out of physically difficult situations. Case in point, in his full form, Rein was able to maneuver his way out of Eren’s grasp time and time again. (Though this can also be attributed to Rein being far stronger than Eren, at the time.)
All in all, the Armored Titan is a beast that is, by and large, its own one-man army.
What Could Make the Armored Titan Stronger: Similar to the Attack Titan, the Armored Titan isn’t weak in any way, shape, or form. The last two Titans are just that strong!
2. Female Titan
Height: 45 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Hardening
- Titan attraction
- Complex versatility
Coming in as the runner-up is the Female Titan, a.k.a. the single Titan whose inheritor, Annie Leonhart, is as strong as its Titan.
The Female Titan is one of the last Titans we would ever want to against, but is also the very first one that we would call if we ever needed someone to break through an army’s defenses, destroy all the weapons, and, most importantly, come back unscathed. She’s done it time and time again. Most recently, when she had to go against the Scouts led by Floch Forster. The Female Titan was no match for them, completely decimating each member until they literally couldn’t fight back anymore.
The Female Titan’s skills come mostly from her amazing physique that allows hardening but also allows her to move with great flexibility and versatility. However, her fighting capabilities are what’s really out of this world.
During her fight against the Attack Titan, she held her own very well, even displacing the Attack Titan for a second. Had the Attack Titan not gone feral and had Annie kept her composure, it’s safe to say the Female Titan would’ve come out on top. We would even go so far as to say that if the Attack Titan and the Female Titan were to have an honest rematch, free of any help from any of their allies, the Female Titan would have a near-perfect chance of winning.
What Could Make the Female Titan Stronger: The Female Titan is on a level that isn’t even fully comprehended by those who have witnessed her strength. The only thing that would make her scarier is if she could stay in her form for a prolonged time to wreak even more havoc on her enemies.
1. Colossal Titan
Height: 196 feet
Top 3 Unique Abilities:
- Immense size and strength
- Steam Emission
- Explosive Transformation
Last but absolutely not least is the Colossal Titan.
There’s a reason why the Titans sent out to crush the world are Colossal Titans and not Jaw Titans or Attack Titans. The reason is that this Titan is like a walking time bomb, waiting to explode on an entire nation. These titans are ginormous. So much so that their size created tall walls that created the civilization of Eldia when it needed walls to keep the other titans out. But the Colossal Titan’s height is the least of everyone’s worries.
As seen many times before, The Colossal Titan can emit steam so hot that it can scorch a human from the outside in. (For example, what happened to Armin before he acquired the Colossal Titan.) Additionally, when this particular Titan transforms, everyone will not only see it but feel it, as it practically turns into an atomic bomb when it takes form.
To that end, the fact that this Titan can release steam and explode on command is so powerful and unique that it would be beside us to not put this one in the number one spot.
What Could Make the Colossal Titan Stronger: The bigger they are, the slower they are! The Colossal Titan is the strongest there is, but if it could have increased attack speed, then we don’t think anyone would have enough reaction time to run. It would be immediate extinction of what individual was unlucky enough to encounter it.
With there being very little content of Attack on Titan left, we believe our rankings will hold years from now. But then again, maybe the anime’s creator, Hajime Isayama, may drop some new lore about the Nine Titans, changing up our entire list as we know it. When (or if) that day comes, we’ll be right here ready to (maybe) eat our words.
