10. Star Trek: Resurgence (2023)

I’m going to be frank (though I am actually Cam). Embarking on a digital voyage with Star Trek: Resurgence is like unwrapping a chocolate bar only to find it’s missing a few chunks – there’s still plenty to savor, but you can’t help missing the bits that should have been there.

Launched in 2023, this game had fans on the edge of their seats, hoping for a Star Trek experience that would beam us into new realms of interactive storytelling. And while it doesn’t quite hit warp speed, Resurgence offers a galaxy of choices and outcomes that will delight fans who love to steer the narrative.

The heart of the game lies in its story and the way your decisions echo through the cosmos, echoing the franchise’s spirit where a carefully chosen word can be mightier than a photon torpedo. It’s not all smooth sailing, though – some mini-games might feel like unwelcome asteroids in an otherwise clear star path, and a few storylines might leave you with more questions than answers.

Regardless, for those who relish the role of a spacefarer navigating the moral and tactical dilemmas of the Star Trek universe, Resurgence provides a canvas to paint your adventure, even if the brushstrokes aren’t always as refined as we’d like.

9. Star Trek: Invasion (2000)

Star Trek: Invasion takes us back to the days of the original PlayStation. Imagine you’re in the pilot’s seat of a fighter craft, adrenaline is pumping through your veins, and the stars are your playground. It’s every Trekkie’s dream to zip around space and get into dogfights with other alien races. Invasion offers a fantastic flight combat experience, taking cues from the Star Trek: Voyager series, which means you get to dive deep into the Delta Quadrant where adventure (and a bit of trouble) is always just around the next star system.

It’s the combination of tight controls, a plot that could easily be a lost episode from the show (complete with voice acting from the actual Voyager cast), and the thrill of real-time space dogfights that makes this game ridiculously fun. Players get to join the elite Red Squad and tackle a story that feels both fresh and authentically Star Trek, with twists, turns, and, of course, the occasional Borg encounter.

Despite the game not being the captain of the fleet when it comes to depth – it’s a little more “shoot first and ask questions later” than a diplomatic mission – it captures the essence of what makes Star Trek so enjoyable.

8. Star Trek: Klingon Academy (2000)

Also released back in 2000, Klingon Academy is a real interstellar gem, capturing the imaginations of Trekkies and gaming cadets alike. It puts you at the helm of a mighty Klingon warship, with none other than General Chang, the Shakespeare-quoting warrior himself, as your mentor. How cool is that?

Klingon Academy offers a rare glimpse into the culture and combat style of the Klingons, a fan-favorite species known for their honor and ferocity. The game scores major points for its deep space combat simulation. You’re not just pew-pew-pewing randomly – you’re making tactical decisions, managing your ship’s power systems, and engaging in some serious starship throw-downs that would make Kahless proud. The storyline is immersive, with political intrigue and explosive space battles. But let’s not forget the technical bits – while the graphics might seem a bit retro by today’s standards, they were quite the spectacle upon its release.

Sure, Klingon Academy isn’t without its quirks, but what game is? Regardless, it gives us a combination of strategic gameplay and rich storytelling that captures the essence of the Star Trek universe.

7. Star Trek: Bridge Crew (2017)

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a virtual reality (VR) game that brings the iconic Star Trek universe to life like never before. Imagine stepping onto the bridge of a starship, the heartbeat of every great Trek adventure, but it’s now your playground. As a member of the Federation’s finest, you and your friends become the officers who command the USS Aegis or the legendary USS Enterprise, navigating the stars and making important decisions. What makes this game stand out is the thrilling sense of camaraderie and teamwork.

Players must communicate, coordinate, and sometimes frantically adapt to the surprises that space throws at them. Although it’s not without its issues – with room for deeper gameplay and more varied missions – Bridge Crew triumphs in delivering a true-to-spirit Star Trek experience. It’s not just a game, it’s a chance to live out those childhood dreams of boldly going where no one has gone before, all from the comfort of your Captain’s chair (aka gaming chair).

6. Star Trek: Elite Force II (2003)

Star Trek: Elite Force II blasts its way into the sixth spot on our Star Trek video game rankings with phaser guns blazing. Picking up where its predecessor, Star Trek: Elite Force, left off, this first-person shooter game takes the Star Trek universe to adrenaline-pumping heights. Why is it at number six? Well, it’s like a thrilling ride through space that manages to mix the exploration and camaraderie of the beloved series with the heart-pounding action of a shooter game. Players get to be a part of the Hazard Team, an elite group that handles dangerous missions that make even the boldest Starfleet officers think twice.

With a pretty solid gameplay, it improved on the original with better graphics, more diverse missions, and even the chance to romance your fellow crew members – ooh la la. While it’s not quite taking home the championship trophy in the Star Trek game universe, it’s definitely earned its stripes as a solid and memorable trek through the final frontier. It’s the kind of game that has you strapping in, firing up the warp drive, and shouting, “Engage!” as you dive headfirst into the action.

5. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – The Fallen (2000)

Set your phasers to fun (that was an awful pun, I’m sorry) and get ready to beam into the rich universe of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – The Fallen. Imagine slipping into the space boots of your favorite DS9 characters – Sisko, Kira, or Worf – as you embark on an epic sci-fi adventure. This game, launched in 2000, serves up a slice of Starfleet life with a side of action, letting you explore familiar decks and new alien worlds.

Why does it chart at a respectable 5 out of 10 on our Star Trek game-o-meter? It’s like a Bajoran wormhole: full of potential, but not quite executed well. The Fallen shines with its voice acting, straight from Deep Space Nine stars, and its gripping storyline, which feels like it’s been beamed right out of the TV series. However, it’s a bit like a holosuite program with a couple of glitches.

The controls can be pretty tricky and the graphics, while great at the turn of the millennium, now look a tad dated. But don’t let that stop you! This game is a tricorder-full of nostalgia and has enough authentic Trek charm to make it a mission worth undertaking for fans who want to experience the final frontier firsthand.

4. Star Trek: Starfleet Command – Orion Pirates (2001)

Next on our list is Star Trek: Starfleet Command – Orion Pirates, a stellar addition to the Starfleet Command series that launched back in 2001. In this game, you’re in command of a starship, the vast expanse of space stretched out before you, and the fate of your crew and vessel in your hands. This game lets you live out that dream, offering a tactical playground where your decisions carry the weight of the Federation (or other powerhouses in the Star Trek universe).

Orion Pirates requires patience and strategy. Players love the depth of tactical gameplay, the intricacies of managing a starship, and, of course, the rush of interstellar combat. Engaging with the infamous Orion Pirates added a layer of charm and cunning to the game, making every encounter a delightful dance of photon torpedoes and deft maneuvering. But it’s not just phasers and photons, there’s diplomacy, too. Your words can be as powerful as your warp drive.

While it’s a treasure for those who love strategy and the Star Trek lore, it can be a tad daunting for those not versed in the art of command or those seeking a more fast-paced experience. Plus, the graphics, while functional, didn’t quite make jaws drop even in its heyday. Yet, for the tactical minds yearning for a taste of life in the captain’s chair, Orion Pirates is a solid game.

3. Star Trek: Voyage – Elite Force (2000)

Buckle up, Starfleet cadets, because we’re about to warp into the action-packed corridors of Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force, a game that sits pretty at number three. This first-person shooter, launched in the year 2000, still beams up a sense of nostalgia and excitement to this day.

Elite Force feels like stepping into a high-octane episode of the Star Trek: Voyager series. You’re part of the Hazard Team, an elite group that tackles the dangers not even the Borg could brush off with a “resistance is futile” wave. The game mixes exciting and dangerous shootouts with brain-scratching puzzles.

What’s more, it’s not just about blasting enemies – it’s about feeling like you’re truly part of the Voyager crew, working alongside fan favorites like Captain Janeway and Seven of Nine. The cherry on top? Authentic voices from the actual cast that pull you into the Star Trek universe faster than a warp drive.

2. Star Trek: Bridge Commander (2002)

Embarking on an adventure as the captain of a starship in Star Trek: Bridge Commander is much like taking the captain’s chair on the set of a Star Trek episode – it’s that immersive. Released in 2002, this game is an excellent combination of strategy and simulation that lets you explore the beauty of the Star Trek universe while commanding your very own Starfleet vessel. Imagine the thrill of issuing orders, maneuvering through asteroid belts, and engaging in pulse-pounding space battles – all while upholding the Prime Directive. I

Bridge Commander offers fans a genuine Star Trek experience, with tactical gameplay that feels both authentic and challenging. You get to make the big decisions, face the consequences, and collaborate with your crew, which is nothing short of a Trekkie’s dream. The game’s ability to let you toggle between a hands-on approach and a more strategic, hands-off command style caters to a variety of gameplay preferences.

And let’s not forget the engaging storyline that feels like it was ripped right from a TV script, complete with plot twists and cameo appearances from favorite characters. It’s this impressive balancing act of control, immersion, and genuine Star Trek charm that earns Star Trek: Bridge Commander second place in this ranking.

1. Star Trek Online (2010)
