Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) in Sony Pictures Animation's SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.

Guess who's going to be slinging webs in a trench coat and fedora? In a twist no one saw coming, it's none other than Nicolas Cage.

According to a new report by Variety, Cage is set to bring Spider-Man Noir to life in the upcoming live-action series Noir on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. Yep. Nicolas Cage, the man, the myth, the meme legend will be stepping back into the superhero spotlight, and this time it's not just any role - it's a gritty, 1930s New York detective who happens to be the city's one and only superhero. Honestly, talk about typecasting done right.

Cage isn't new to this mysterious and moody version of Spider-Man. He voiced the character in the animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and he absolutely nailed it with his brooding, vintage vibe. Now, he's taking it to the next level in a show that promises to blend dark detective work with superhero flair. The series itself sounds like a comic book fan's dream come true. It's being helmed by some top-tier talent with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (the geniuses behind Into the Spider-Verse) and Amy Pascal steering the ship as producers. Plus, the series will kick off with Harry Bradbeer (you might know him from Fleabag) directing the first two episodes. With such a star-studded creative team, expectations are soaring higher than Spidey swinging from the Empire State Building.

Now, here's a super fun fact - this will be Cage's first regular TV role. Yes, after decades of unforgettable movie roles from the heart-wrenching Leaving Las Vegas to the treasure-hunting antics in National Treasure, Cage will finally be gracing the small screen on a regular basis. And what better way to do it than as a superhero?

As for the storyline, it's all about an aging private investigator tangled up in his past life as a superhero. This isn't just another Spider-Man tale, it's a story with shadows, secrets, and the weight of the past - all wrapped up in a moody, noir aesthetic. Get ready for a mix of action, mystery, and a touch of melancholy, all served with a generous dose of Nicolas Cage's unique brand of intensity.

With Cage's penchant for eccentric performances and the dark allure of the noir genre, Noir is gearing up to be a wildly fascinating ride. Who knew spiders could be this enthralling without the bright Spandex?
