What do we need from Black Lightning season 3?
Season 2 of The CW’s Black Lighting has been completed. This season was full of emotional moments, so much so that there were more memorable moments of the Pierce’s out of the Black Lightning life than in. For example, there was a major focus on the lives of the green pod kids and how Lynn was reacting to some of them living and dying. The season ended with Agent Odell dropping a bomb on the Pierce family. Not only did he know their secrets, but there is going to be war coming, and Freeland is ground zero.
It looks like season 3 of Black Lighting will revolve around Markovia and their invasion of Freeland. You’ll see Agent Odell have a bigger role, since he will be more than likely on the front lines of everything. He’ll be sending in metahumans from their pods to train, and he’ll keep a close eye on Lynn and her experiments. Also, look for him to try to blackmail the Pierce’s if they refuse to help him in this war. In addition, there are other major characters who can be expected to make an appearance next season. Here are some that will prove to have important roles in season 3 of Black Lightning.

Lynn Pierce
In the past, Lynn hasn’t had too much to do, but that definitely changed this season. Shespent a good part of this season dealing with her new life. She was officially part of the vigilante life. Lynn may not have put on a costume, but her work with the metahumans in the pods put her right in the middle of everything. She had some moments where it looked like she was going to break down and leave her family, but Lynn stuck with them through it all. It didn’t help that she had to deal with the immoral practices of Dr. Jace or Agent Odell and their secretive nature up until the season finale.
What’s next?
Lynn’s mettle is going to be tested. With this war coming to Freeland, how is she going to react? Lynn is aware that she doesn’t personally understand what it’s like to have powers and, at times, this puts a wedge between her and her family. With everything going on, we’ll have to see if she is capable of dealing with things when they get more intense than they have been. Hopefully, she remains strong and helps her family and Freeland stop this upcoming war.

Dr. Helga Jace and Markovia
Dr. Helga Jace started and ended the season only thinking about herself and her experiments. She caused the death of multiple pod kid,s and we find out later that she’s responsible for Tobias remaining so young. She experimented on him without his permission, and he isn’t the only person. Markovia grabbed her to help them create more metas for their cause. She doesn’t care about human life, and it looks like this will work in her favor.
What’s next?
Dr. Jace may live to regret joining Markovia so willingly. She thinks she’s the smartest and most important person in any room, no matter how many times it’s been proven that she isn’t. She also may assume she can control the situation in Markovia and that it’s better there than in jail. What Dr. Jace doesn’t realize is that she may have exchanged one prison for one with more space. She will enjoy running her experiments, but she’s admitted that she needs Lynn to make things work. The people in Markovia know this, as well. If she doesn’t produce results, the Markovians may try to kidnap Lynn again or kill Dr. Jace for failing them.

Looker
Her appearance will make you believe that she is going to be a spoiled and entitled pushover. That assumption is a mistake. Looker was tough, ruthless, as well as incredibly savvy and intelligent. She knew her strengths and faults and made it a point to weed out any weakness in her people. When she went up against Thunder (Anissa Pierce), she took her to the limit. In fact, if not for the intervention of Black Lightning, Thunder would have been killed. Instead, Looker is in a metahuman prison.
What’s Next?
Looker is too good of a character not to be brough back. If not for Tobias having more air time, she would have stolen the show. Thankfully, she wasn’t killed at the end of the show. With Markovia coming to Freeland, don’t be shocked if they make a play to recruit her. It’s doubtful she’ll willingly take a job to work with Black Lightning or Agent Odell due to their skin color. But who knows, maybe the offer of going back to her home could sway her. Even then, she shouldn’t be trusted. Let’s also not forget that she’s seen Black Lighting without his mask. No way this doesn’t hurt him in the future.

Grace Choi
Grace Choi and Anissa’s relationship had their ups and downs this season. In the beginning, Lynn was feeling herself, and it left Grace feeling a way about being left out. As time went on, they got close and started dating again. Just when it looked like they have their relationship under control and everything seemed pleasant, they go bad. We find out that Grace is a metahuman and that she’s kept it secret for years. Even worse is that she was abandoned as a child and sold into prostitution. When it looks like her powers are getting out of control, she leaves without telling anyone.
What’s Next?
Anissa eventually realizes that the man she fought while looking for Grace was actually Grace herself. The love of her life is a shapeshifter, and she didn’t know. Now that Anissa knows Grace is out there, how long until Anissa goes looking for her? Even still, does Grace want to be found? Considering her past life, it doesn’t seem like it would be easy to let people in 100%. With everything that’s going to happen with Markovia, Grace may be safer with Anissa than on her own. It’s going to be difficult to find someone who can look like anyone.

Khalil
Khalil was caught in a very precarious situation. After not having the use of his legs, he was given the option of regaining it, but that meant he’d have to work for Tobias. Khalil agreed, but eventually realized that things aren’t what he thought they’d be. He figured he’d get some powers and break some heads. However, Tobias’ plans aren’t that simple. He wanted Khalil to be his right-hand man, since Tobias’ sister was killed in the first season. When it looked like Khalil wasn’t going to be able to handle it, Tobias set out to kill him. Eventually, Tobias catches up to Khalil and rips the implant out of Khalil’s back, leaving Khalil paralyzed, without powers, and, eventually, dead. Or so we thought.
What’s Next?
In the final episode, we see Khalil in a pod where the metahumans are kept. Jennifer had this idea before he died. This could mean he was brought back to life or the death was a ruse. So what now? How will Jennifer react to Khalil being alive, and will he wake up next season? He has powers and, with some training, he could be an important part in Freeland surviving the Markovian invasion.

Tobias remained the big bad that he was all season. He may have lost his sister and failed turning Khalil into his second in command, but Tobias continued his reckoning. He had a plan to become the most powerful seller of metahumans on the black market. Tobias would have completed this goal if not for one problem: He got arrogant. Tobias started acting as if he had everything in the bag, a mistake that almost every villain makes. Once he lost Cutter and Dr. Jace, there was no one left to stop him from imploding. This ended with him getting beaten handedly by Black Lightning and Lighting (Jennifer). In the end, Tobias landed in a metahuman prison, having no rights of his own.
What’s Next?
Realistically, there’s no way Tobias remains locked up for the duration of season 3. He’s too smart and manipulative for things to end like that for him. The Markovians might make their play to try to take all of the metahumans where Tobias is being held. If he’s captured, he’ll eventually escape. Also, Tobias probably has information on Markovia that will be needed, but that intel will come at a price, most likely his freedom.

Jefferson Pierce
As the season went on, it didn’t seem like there was a lot going on with Jefferson. But after looking back at the season closely, there was actually a lot to his arc. He had his moments with Principal Mike Lowry, but that wasn’t a big part throughout. Him and Lynn argued a bit but it leads to them communicating better. Him and Anissa argued a lot about the “right way” to be heroes, and it looked like she was going to leave her days as Thunder behind and remain Blackbird. Jefferson also talked his daughter, Jennifer, out of killing Tobias. There may not have been a major focus on him, but he definitely had his moments. He’ll absolutely have more once season 3 starts.
What’s Next?
Expect to see Jefferson as Black Lightning more this upcoming season. There will be more action than we’ve had in the past two seasons and it will be hard hitting. Also, Jefferson and Agent Odell are going to butt heads throughout the incoming chaos. Odell is going to push the metahumans in hiscare too hard, and he’s likely going to kill. And Jefferson is going to have issues with both of these things and more.

Jennifer Pierce
Jennifer was the best part of this season. Her growth and maturity, all while remaining an immature teenager, were well done. The nature of her new abilities was showcased in a way that made sense. She used to think of them as a curse, but she eventually learned to not only useher abilities but love them, as well. She even saved Khalil more than a few times, while they were on the run. Her biggest accomplishment was putting the fear into Tobias in the final episode of the season. She could have killed him but, with some help from her father, she showed the strength not to do so.
What’s next?
Jennifer is going to have to mature even faster than she already has. She’ll be needed in this upcoming war. She’ll be called upon to fight (despite Jefferson probably not wanting her to) and also charge Black Lighting up when his powers are depleted. Will Jennifer be trusted to go out on patrol by herself? If she isn’t, how is she going to react to be kept indoors while crime and mischief ensue? She could prove her worth or revert back to being immature. And you can definitely expect her to flip if she realizes that Khalil is alive.
