Honorable Mention: Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #3-14

While compiling the official top ten comic books list was rough, I could mention comics that just missed the mark all day. Proper shout-outs could be given to many titles. They would include Captives by Fright Comics, Jem and the Misfits at IDW Publishing, and even some of the young adult graphic novels I occasionally review from Random House. Yet for personal reasons, I feel that the iconic web-slinger’s best comic book series out there today needs a mention.

The series began last year, and spins off of a Battleworld mini series from 2015. It takes place in a world where Peter Parker and Mary Jane stayed married, and had a daughter named Annie May. Furthermore, it’s a future where the super villain Regent killed or incapacitated most of the other Marvel heroes! Now, the Parkers face the ultimate responsibility — juggling being superheroes as well as parents!

Much of the year’s stories were handled by Gerry Conway and Ryan Stegman as writers and/or lead artists. As of issue thirteen, Jody Houser has taken over to chronicle an era where Annie has gone from grade school to sophomore year! Along the way, the Spider-family has had to tackle the Mole Man, Magneto and the Brotherhood, Venom, Green Goblin, and the Lizard — twice! In an era where Spider-Man acts as immature as ever in his main series, this one features him at his best!
