1. Barry and Iris (The Flash)

In The Flash‘s debut season, Barry Allen was goofy, quirky and perpetually late C.S.I. hopelessly in love with his best friend, Iris West. On the other hand, Iris was a smart and motivated blossoming reporter, unaware of how her childhood friend really felt about her. Little did they know the craziness that awaited them and how an impossible accident would set them both on course to achieving everything they could have ever dreamed of.

Over the course of the first season, Iris would fall for The Flash while simultaneously (although less obviously) falling for Barry, all while she was still in love with Eddie. While a little time travel, not to mention her discovery that Barry actually was The Flash, slowed things down, not even time itself could stop these two from falling for each other.

Since then, Barry has taken on anyone and anything that dared threaten her, never failing to have her back. And though he may have fought murderous versions of himself and was even wrongly imprisoned, Iris remained by his side – never questioning her love for him. Whether she was championing him in public or supporting him in private, she made sure that we knew she was willing to fight for her husband, no matter what. It all paid off in Season 4 when the long-time lovebirds took the final step in securing their status as the Arrowverse’s most iconic couple when they finally said “I do” in the 2017 crossover.

From childhood besties to a happily married couple, Barry and Iris now co-captain Team Flash as Mrs. West-Allen is always there, guiding her husband via comms while the Scarlet Speedster makes Central City a safer place. Through Grant Gustin and Candice Patton’s incredible performances, and the strong writing, West-Allen has always been The Flash‘s greatest attribute. Just like in the comics, Iris West is and always will be Barry Allen’s lightning rod.
