Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger season 2 trailer arrives
By Sara Salamat
Marvel just released the trailer for Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger, and Mayhem is upon the citizens of Louisiana.
Following the discovery of their powers in season 1; season 2 of Cloak and Dagger takes Tyrone Johnson, and Tandy Bowen are thrown right into an entirely new set of threats. The theme of the season hovers over Louisiana’s sex trafficking dilemma.
Tandy and Tyrone are introduced to Detective Brigid O’Reilly’s alter ego, Mayhem. Viewers may recall that the season 1 finale where Detective Brigid O’Reilly stated that it’s her turn now. It’s also important to remember that O’Reilly knows about the duo’s secret identities. Another surprise O’Reilly caught one of Tandy’s white daggers thrown at her. This suggests to the audience that she isn’t entirely human. (Note that in the comics, O’Reilly was born human, but reborn as a mutant)
In the trailer, we see that O’Reilly tries to recruit both Tandy and Tyrone to save the victims of the ongoing sex trafficking. Tensions arise when O’Reilly asks if they’re with her or not in what appears to be a mid-fight. Tyrone suggests that Detective O’Reilly isn’t right about this (saving the girls). It’s sort of like a Hot-N-Cold situation with Tandy siding with O’Reilly/Mayhem and Tyrone feeling iffy about the situation.

This season looks more promising given the fact that we see new powers with Tandy and Tyrone. Towards the end of the trailer, Tandy summons a white sphere and throws it at a truck, showing the audience that she can do more than throw daggers. It’s clear that they have been practicing and have gotten a better grasp on their powers.
This trailer shows maturity as far as powers and relationships go, as well as the heavily hinted act of betrayal between O’Reilly and Tandy. The two friends follow the trope of unlikely heroes coming together to save the city; which is what Tyrone insists on doing, but without Mayhem.
Cloak and Dagger will return with a two-hour long back to back episode Thursday, April 4 at 8 p.m. ET only on Freeform.
