Arrow: Why Felicity and Laurel’s friendship is a highlight of season 7
4. They share secrets
Characters being entrusted with secrets has been a frequent motif on Arrow, and this season was no exception. For Felicity and Laurel, in particular, a major breakthrough in their relationship came in episode eleven when Laurel opened up about a tragedy in her past: her father being killed by a drunk driver.
As can be seen above, Laurel was initially reluctant to talk about it. However, once she realized she did indeed trust Felicity, Laurel told Felicity what she’d never told anyone: she felt responsible for her father’s death because she was the reason he’d been on the road that day. Felicity then helped Laurel not only get closure but also come to understand that she was not at fault.
On a happier note, Laurel has also been keeping a secret of Felicity’s. She figured out Felicity was pregnant, even before Felicity got a chance to tell Oliver, and she remains one of the only people who knows.
For now, Laurel is back on Earth-2; but, according to showrunner Beth Schwartz, she will return this season. Hopefully, she’ll get in a few more scenes with Felicity before Emily Bett Rickards makes her exit.
