The life of Jennika Ebbs in TMNT Free Comic Book Day 2019
By Alex Widen
Falcons, Sharks, and Henchmen — Oh My!
Unfortunately, the Turtles’ pursuers chase them by both air and sea! A crazy turn near the shoreline brings them close to Bludgeon, a mutant hammerhead shark. Before anyone can react, the “street shark” knocks Casey off his motorcycle. The scheme seems to be to divide and conquer — and it’s successful! Casey may be able to take on standard gang goons or the occasional low-level Foot Ninja, but he hasn’t a prayer against the massive mutant predator!

The entire situation with Jennika has frayed some of the Turtles’ last nerves, and Raphael is wound tight enough to snap. Jennika is a friend, and he wanted to escape the city specifically to avoid this sort of violence — only Leonardo wouldn’t listen. Michelangelo’s “back seat driving” and Donatello’s gadgets weighing down the van aren’t helping either. But when Casey gets attacked, things get simple. In this continuity, Raphael met Casey first and, in a way, is closer to him than even his biological brothers. Against the odds, the pair decide to take Bludgeon on!

Yet as Leonardo quickly learns, not even reaching the nearest hospital is the end of the struggle. The mutants had hoped to have another human around, like Jones or Angel, to bring Jennika into the facility. After no end of attacks and a recent alien invasion, the public appearance of mutants won’t end well. That becomes the least of their problems, as the hospital is surrounded by Karai’s human goons. These include, presumably, some local mobsters and Yakuza she’s managed to rally.
