Black Lightning: 6 things we need to see from season 3
By Mark Lynch
6. Continue Jennifer’s Growth
Jennifer Pierce started season 1 being just another annoying teenager and, considering that she’s a high school student, this shouldn’t shock anyone. However, when season 2 started, she made a huge leap.
Jennifer seemed to grow up overnight. There were even parts of the show where she has felt like the most mature person in their family. Sure, she still had issues dealing with her insecurities about feeling like a “freak”, but as the season went on, she started coming to terms with that and realized that her powers were a gift. Now, she has a costume, powers, and a name: She’s Lightning and, more than that, she’s officially a hero. That said, this shouldn’t be the end of her maturity.
Beyond her powers, we saw Jennifer start to stand up for what she believed in (just like her father and sister Anissa). This was another big step in her growth, and we really need to see more of this in season 3.
Even though Jennifer’s powers are going to be a big part of her story, she’s so much more than that. Her personality is too bright to be stifled by just being Lighting. Honestly, making her the main focus of the show wouldn’t be a bad idea. Look for her to have a bigger role in this upcoming season.
