Supergirl’s 100th episode: Which characters should return?
For Supergirl’s 100th episode, there are some important characters that should 100% return; but will they?
James Olsen
James Olsen was a staple in Supergirl for the first four seasons. Going from Clark’s best friend who was sent to keep an eye on Kara, to being in a relationship with the Girl of Steel, to becoming one of her best friends and fellow hero. Earlier this year, he left National City to help the citizens of Calvintown. Despite no longer being a series regular, the 100th episode for a show without one of its staple characters would seem off. Does he even know that Crisis happened?
The biggest (and only) reason this writer could see James Olsen not appearing in this monumental episode would be because he just left a few short months ago. But unlike Oliver Queen’s exit, his departure wasn’t for the greater good, so a return wouldn’t feel like a cheat. Supergirl episode 100 NEEDS James Olsen back.
Cat Grant
While Cat was a major player in season one, she only appeared in four more episodes when the show moved to The CW. However, her presence has never left Supergirl. Let alone Kara working for CatCo still, she’s been mentioned at least once (often more) in each season of the series. Cat Grant is instrumental in helping Kara become the person she is today—both as journalist Kara Danvers and hero Supergirl.

Alura Zor-El
Kara’s birth mother, Alura Zor-El, is another character that has been a presence since the beginning. We did briefly see her this season, during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, but it would seem critical for her to be in an episode a big as “It’s a Super Life”.
There may be no moments that Kara would specifically want to change with her mother, but Alura is another character who Kara could go to for advice. Clark can relate to Kara on many things, but there’s nothing like a parental figure offering themselves as a sounding board.
Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers
Speaking of parents, an event episode like this calls for guest stars like Dean Cain (Jeremiah) and Helen Slater (Eliza) to make an appearance. Jeremiah, while being mentioned on the series as recent season four, hasn’t been seen since season two. Perhaps in a post-Crisis world, things are different, and he’s no longer MIA; but Kara likely won’t be going to her adoptive father for any advice.
Eliza has been on at least one episode every season thus far, and this would be the most opportune time for her to show up in season five. Kara has a support system but doesn’t have any easy access to family other than Alex. Her sister is great, but having a mother figure there, especially after going through everything with Lena and Crisis, seems critical for Kara’s well-being.
