Remembering Chadwick Boseman’s best Marvel moments
T’Challa shows Zemo compassion
One highlight from Captain America: Civil War involves a moment in which T’Challa traces Zemo to Siberia just as he is about to take his own life and the Black Panther stop him from doing so. It’s during this moment that Tony and Steve are fighting it out after it was revealed Rogers had always known his best friend Bucky had killed Stark’s parents Howard and Maria.
Chadwick is remarkable in the scene where T’Challa listens to Zemo’s tragic backstory where his family was killed during the attack in Sokovia and how he didn’t want the Avengers to die at his hand, but at the hands of each other. Boseman shows how far Black Panther has come from wanting revenge to realizing it will not bring his father back and how hate is all consuming.
Boseman knew that in order for T’Challa to evolve into the King of Wakanda he wanted to be, he had to show compassion to others in a way previous monarchs – including T’Chaka – had not. This comes back into play in Black Panther which we’ll come to later. He also stops Zemo from harming himself by pulling him into a headlock.
