Best DC movies and shows on HBO Max: Batman: The Animated Series
Batman has been a force to be reckoned with as far back as anyone can remember, and his time on the big screen has been a hit or miss ordeal, with the DCEU version receiving mixed opinions from both fans and critics alike. Bat-fleck wasn’t for everyone, and that not a crime. Some people prefer Michael Keaton’s take while others pledge their undying allegiance to the Christian Bale Dark knight.
And then there are those that believe Kevin Conroy’s cowl-wearing crime-fighter in Batman: The Animated Series that eclipses everything else as a superior adaptation of the legendary DC hero. Its film noir aesthetics and darker tone helped it stand out from the competition, and the modernization of the character’s origin regarding crime-fighting was without a doubt one of the best parts of the entire endeavor.
The villains featured throughout the show’s 85 episode run are some of the best depictions of these iconic personas outside of the comics, and many of the stories featured throughout its tenure were more enthralling than some of the full-length feature films. And these were only around 22 minutes in length.
Batman: The Animated Series has been named the best adaptation of Batman outside of the comics in any form of media, and test comic book show of all time by IGN with TV guide also dubbing it one the greatest cartoons of all time.
