The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: 5 best moments from “One World, One People”
By Liam Clark
1. Bucky finishes his book
As all Marvel fans know, James “Bucky” Barnes’ story is one of the most tragic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From starting off as the best friend and closest ally of Steve Rogers to being transformed into a mindless assassin, his arc was difficult to watch as it unfolded.
However, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier began with Bucky seeing a therapist and attempting to make up for all of the horrible things he did or instigated during his time as the Winter Soldier. This begins with Bucky not really understanding how to make amends.
With his conversation with Sam in episode 5 being clear in his mind, Bucky is inspired to make amends with his friend, Yori Nakajima, in the finale as he reveals that he was responsible for the death of his son. Shortly after, we see Bucky gift his therapist with the notebook he was keeping – only this time with all the names crossed off. This not only conveyed that he has now moved on from the Winter Soldier persona but it also highlighted that he is ready to begin his new life.
It is a touching sequence and some well-earned character development for Sebastian Stan’s character, with the hero perhaps moving onto a new MCU project in the future (maybe even the upcoming Captain America 4) as a new man.
