Greatest comic book characters – 42. Billy Butcher

First comic book appearance: The Boys No. 1

The tragedy that happened to Billy Butcher started his war on super-powered people. Even though he has super strength, he knew he couldn’t just beat them physically. So he created a plan to wipe them all out. A strategy that would have worked if not for one problem. Butcher even planned to have someone stop him.

In The Boys comic book, Mother’s Mile described him perfectly. He said Butcher doesn’t waste anything including a smile. He was right. That’s the one thing that’s missing from The Boys TV series. Butcher’s smoothness.

Butcher isn’t impulsive. Everything he does is for a reason. As of yet, Karl Urban hasn’t shown the master strategist that Billy Butcher is. If you enjoy The Boys on Amazon Prime, this writer highly recommends the comic book series. This way you can see his greatness.

Greatest comic book characters – 41. Ben Grimm

First comic book appearance: The Fantastic Four No. 1

Ben Grimm is easily the most recognized character in the Fantastic Four. His look and his “It’s clobberin’ time” catchphrase helps. There are tons of characters that have cool catchphrases and memorable looks. That doesn’t mean they make this list. Ben Grimm here because he combines all of that with a relatable personality of being unsure about their looks.

No one deals with self-esteem like Ben Grimm does. His exterior makes him feel like a monster. The good part is while he’s still insecure about it, he’s realized that it’s only part of him. The people who adore him don’t see a monster. They see a man and a hero.

Over the last few years, Ben has married and adopted two alien kids. This writer highly recommends reading the current Dan Slott Fantastic Four run. It’s a great representation of him.
