4. Brutus takes out Superman and Black Adam
Comic book: Justice League No. 61
The Justice League transported to the planet Brutus came from (see Justice League No. 59 for more on that) to stop him from continuing his plans to conquer their world. When they arrived, each member was in a different place. On top of that, their powers were acting weird.
Black Canary’s sonic scream was more powerful, Naomi’s hands were fading away, Superman’s laser vision was stronger than normal – so much so that he didn’t want to open his eyes. Just as he does, though, he is attacked by Brutus. Black Adam shows up to help but they are both defeated by Brutus. Now, it’s the remaining Justice League members left to take on a figure who just defeated two of the most powerful beings in their reality.
Why is this important?
The best way to make an impact is by defeating the biggest and best. Brutus just did that. Sure, he has the advantage of being accustomed to whatever it is that is making the heroes feel off, but it’s a win nonetheless.
The smart bet is that it will be Naomi who ultimately defeats Brutus. She’s the only member of this team with something to prove to new readers. We still don’t know the extent of what her powers are. Having her win would take us all one step closer to finding out what she’s fully capable of.
