Comic book: Nubia and the Amazons No. 1 (of 6)
Many people may not know this, but Nubia was born the same time Diana Prince (a.k.a. Wonder Woman) was. Nubia wasn’t “born” in the conventional way. In the new Nubia and the Amazons comic, we find out that she came from the Well of Souls. Women who come from the Well of Souls died in their old lives from the violence of man’s world and are reborn on Themyscira. She was the last one to come from there until recently.
At first, it seemed like a coincidence. Nubia is immediately skeptical. As the acting Queen of Themyscira, she’s smart to be so.
The issue ends with an Amazon saying that the Well of Souls opening is a cursed omen that she’s seen in a prophecy. The last panel shows she’s right as there is an Amazon Warrior guarding Doom’s Doorway and she’s been turned to stone.
Why is this important?
Nubia and the Amazons is a mini-series written by Vita Ayala and Stephanie Williams. It was announced that there will be a series called Trial of the Amazons. This series could be leading to that. If Nubia doesn’t handle this situation the way Wonder Woman and Hippolyta think she could have. This could lead to a power struggle. Especially since there’s a moment in the prophecy where Wonder Woman is holding someone and crying blood. The blame may be placed on Nubia.
