Amazon Prime The Boys: Comparing the comic book to the show
By Mark Lynch
Starlight The Boys comics differences
Actor: Erin Moriarty
Starlight’s change was perfect. Annie January (Starlight) was more empowering here than she was in the comics. She helped Hughie and the rest of The Boys find out the dirty deeds behind Vought International’s checkered past. Starlight put herself in dangerous situations to get the evidence they needed. And, when it came time to fight, she was at the front helping people.
The comic book Starlight had a long progression to become strong. She had to take a lot of abuse before she could stand up for herself more. Part of that included Hughie being a jerk to her and almost being killed by Homelander. Erin Moriarty is doing a great job bringing a new look to Starlight.
Black Noir The Boys comics differences
Actor: Nathan Mitchell
The only similarity between the show and the comic is neither of them speaks. Their costumes differ, the show’s Black Noir has a funny personality, and he actually does stuff. He may be scarier than Homelander. The comic book Black Noir wasn’t important until The Boys: Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men. We may see why in the final season.
Becca Butcher The Boys comics differences
Actor: Shantel VanSanten
Seeing Becca Butcher was alive disappointing at first. Then she dies at the end of season 2. It made the story with Becca, Butcher, and Homelander even better. However, the story in the comics was sadder.
Becca was sexually assaulted by a superhero during her and Butcher’s honeymoon. She dies months later in her sleep after their baby bursts out of her stomach. This sends Butcher into a downward spiral that leads to him becoming a government employee. It also would have been nice to see the story from Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker.
