Black Panther: Great and terrible Marvel Comics facts about T’Challa
By Mark Lynch
6. Black Panther hasn’t forgiven Namor
The relationship between Namor and T’Challa wasn’t always bad. They were actually colleagues for a while. Wakanda and Atlantis share a lot of similarities. This helped them bond over their disdain for how the world is run.
After T’Challa’s marriage to Storm, the newlyweds went on a world tour of sorts (read Black Panther 2005-2008 for more on that). One of their stops was Atlantis. This is where T’Challa and Namor made an official pact between nations. That ended during Avengers vs X-Men when the King of Atlantis flooded Wakanda.
Years later, Shuri was Black Panther and T’Challa was forced to work with Namor for the sake of their universe. However, T’Challa never forgot what he did and promised Namor he’d kill him. Then, things got worse. Namor lied and sent Thanos’ forces to destroy Wakanda in order to save Atlantis. They succeeded. Eventually, T’Challa gets his revenge. Nevertheless, he’ll never forgive Namor for the things he’s done. It’s seen when Namor comes to the Avengers ( this happens in Jason Aaron’s current run of Avengers).
5. Slapped Tony Stark
In Avengers vs X-Men, Tony Stark accidentally split the Phoenix Force into five and gave its powers to Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Magik, and Colossus. Even though Tony may have stopped the destruction of Earth, he felt responsible for the Phoenix Five.
After failing at fixing the Phoenix Five, Tony suggested that he sacrifice himself to save the day and T’Challa slapped him. He said that ending his life because science failed him is unacceptable. The slap worked. Tony didn’t sacrifice himself and tried a magic solution as T’Challa suggested.
