MCU: The 20 best Marvel Cinematic Universe characters of 2022
By Mark Lynch
6. Okoye
Marvel project: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Actress: Danai Gurira
Okoye remains one of the best characters in Wakanda and the Black Panther Franchise. She’s easily the toughest fighter they have and it’s not close. Okoye’s will to fight is only outdone by her undying need to protect her country and its people. Even after she was stripped of her title, Okoye wanted to help. In order to do that she needed to get past her stubbornness against technology. When that happened, Okoye became a Midnight Angel.
Okoye was incredible in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever because she could be whatever the scene required. Danai Gurira made her character fearless despite when outmatched. Bold when she was overpowered. And emotional when she lost people she loved. There’s no doubt she belongs in the top ten best of the year. It’s befuddling that she hasn’t been given her own special, show, or movie.
5. Doctor Strange
Marvel project: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch
Doctor Stephen Strange continued to perform fantastically in his second starring role. The highly anticipated sequel showed the former Sorcerer Supreme being as creative as his comic book counterpart. Making a cape of levitations out of souls was grim and him fighting using musical notes was amazing. Two ingenious ways of showing his skills.
Everything mentioned above fails in comparison to him defending himself against the Scarlet Witch. There’s no way he should have survived that. Wanda defeated four of the most powerful beings in that universe, but Stephen Strange survived her wrath on top of helping America Chavez overcome her self-doubt.
Doctor Strange did so much in such a short amount of time. That’s what put him in the top five. It’s a feat that could be the best of the year.
