5. Ben Affleck as Batman
Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman in the DCEU was met with mixed reviews, particularly in terms of his emotional depth and range as the iconic character. Many fans and critics noted that Affleck’s performance lacked the same level of emotional intensity and nuance as previous actors who played the role, such as Christian Bale and Michael Keaton.
Affleck’s performance failed to fully capture the emotional complexity of Batman, particularly his brooding and tortured nature. Sure, Affleck certainly looked the part with his imposing physical presence and impressive bat suit, but he ultimately fell short when it came to portraying the character’s inner turmoil and moral struggles.
When one plays a character as iconic as Batman, it’s hard not to compare their performance to past actors. And one of the downfalls of Batfleck was how his performance lacked the same level of nuance and subtlety as previous portrayals of Batman. While Bale and Keaton both brought a certain degree of gravitas and depth to their performances, Affleck’s performance often felt one-dimensional and lacking in emotional range.
While Ben Affleck’s performance as Batman certainly had its moments of strength, it ultimately fell short of the high bar set by previous actors who have taken on the iconic role as well as the bar set by his Justice League costars.
