Movies on Disney Plus: Deadpool

It took a long time for a Deadpool movie to actually happen, and when it was announced the beloved actor Ryan Reynolds would be playing the titular character, Marvel fans were ecstatic. As those who’ve read the comics were aware of before the movie, Deadpool isn’t just your ordinary superhero. He’s a total antihero, one who’s unapologetic, goofy, and sarcastic. He’s so entertaining onscreen, and fortunately, the first movie was a total success.

The 2016 movie directed by Tim Miller was a box office hit, and viewers were pleasantly surprised by how hilarious it turned out to be, full of meta-commentary, pop culture references, and self-awareness, proving to be a breath of fresh air for the Marvel movie universe.

If you decide to watch Deadpool and enjoy it, we bring good news; Deadpool 2 is also streaming on Disney Plus!

Movies on Disney Plus: The New Mutants

And finally, the last entry on our list is The New Mutants. This movie had quite the development journey, and Marvel fans have mixed feelings about it. Directed by Josh Boone, it was originally slated for release in 2018 but faced multiple delays and setbacks, which had many believing it would never come out. Even the cast was unsure of its release, but the movie finally hit theaters in 2020.

The New Mutants was a box office failure, though the fact that it came out during the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t help. Despite the strong cast, including familiar faces Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Heaton, the movie is just totally disjointed. And that’s likely because of all the reshoots they did. There’s not enough character development, there are pacing issues, and it really just feels generic.

This one had a ton of potential, but unfortunately, it just didn’t live up to it.

Verdict: SKIP
