2. Nora Allen
By the time that The Flash‘s Season 1 finale rolled around, we had already witnessed Nora Allen’s death more times than we care to count. But in the unlikely event that you managed to build up a threshold to seeing the kind-hearted mother of Barry Allen killed by the Reverse-Flash, not even that could have prepared you for the heartbreak you would witness in the finale when the Scarlet Speedster went back in time and was forced to watch her die all over again.
Perhaps it was the fact that he had spent all season trying to save her, or maybe it was just the Emmy-worthy performances of Grant Gustin and Michelle Harrison, but there was something undeniably crushing about watching this scene between a grieving son who tried so hard to save his mother, and that dying mother simply concerned about the safety of her loved ones.
“It’s me, Mom. It’s Barry,” he emotionally told Nora as the pair quietly and tearfully (very tearfully) embraced before Barry assured her that he and his father would both be okay – a fitting but tragic way of wrapping up the Scarlet Speedster’s Season 1 arc.
Without a doubt, the most heartbreaking scene in Arrowverse history, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone anywhere who didn’t bawl their eyes out at this absolutely beautiful moment.
