General Sam Lane

Unfortunately, the great General Lane himself won’t be returning for Superman and Lois season 4. Dylan Walsh has portrayed the role for the first three seasons, but it has been confirmed that he won’t be in the fourth season at all.

The announcement came from Walsh’s wife, Leslie Bourque-Walsh, who revealed the news via an Instagram post. Taking to social media to congratulate Walsh’s fellow actors and friends on the renewal of Superman and Lois, she also added that they “know General Lane was cut due to budget”.

In the comments section on the post, she then replied to a fan hoping that he would appear in a recurring capacity, revealing that he wouldn’t be, adding that “he passed on appearing in 3/10 episodes” and that he is “Not going to to recur”. When asked if he could guest star, she stated that she didn’t think so as it was “New beginnings for him.”

Sam Lane has been such an important part of Superman and Lois, so the idea of losing him is incredibly sad. The show thrives because it’s a family drama, and the fact that there are three generations of Lanes on the show makes it so unique. Losing Sam definitely takes away from that, especially as Walsh has done such a phenomenal job at making a traditionally closed-off comic book character exhibit such heart. We’ll miss seeing him on the show, particularly his incredible scenes with Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois.

Thank you, General Lane!
