Supergirl: Every character ranked from worst to best
8. Nia Nal / Dreamer
Television is such a powerful medium, capable of creating change. Supergirl strived for positive change throughout the entirety of its run, and there is no greater example of that than when it introduced Nia Nal, a.k.a. Dreamer.
TV’s first transgender superhero, Nia quickly became a welcome addition to the show, both in her capacity as a reporter at CatCo, and as a crucial part of the Super Friends. Portrayed by Nicole Maines, she longed to discover the secrets behind her abilities as the Dreamer and unlock her true potential. That was a journey that she was on throughout the fourth, fifth, and six seasons, as she learned more about her family’s history and her powers, becoming a stronger superhero in the process.
It’s true that the show could have spotlighted Dreamer much more than it did (it was only during her appearance on The Flash‘s final season that we saw her fully embrace and own her powers), there is no denying the impact that she made on not just Supergirl but pop-culture in general. It’s so incredible to see this wonderful original character welcomed into the DC Comics family, once again highlighting how powerful television can be.
Dreamer’s story with DC is far from over, we just hope that we get to see the wonderful Nicole Maines portray her again at some point in the future.
