Every DC Universe original show ranked from worst to best
6. Titans
It’s hard to place Titans so low on this list because, when it was at its absolute best, it was nothing short of brilliant. Unfortunately, being the first of the service’s original programming, it acted as more of a learning curve for the DC Universe and thus, it made mistakes where its successors did not.
Surprisingly grim and unnervingly violent, the first couple of episodes pushed boundaries that they really didn’t need to and this resulted in a number of unnecessary tonal issues. In addition, pacing issues left some episodes focusing too much on the same characters while bafflingly ignoring others and the show felt like it was struggling to figure out what it was trying to say. That said, midway through the season, it finally began to figure that out. Each episode got progressively better as more focus was paid to streamlining Dick’s character arc while more general attention was paid to everyone else’s.
As result, the show quickly became one of the most compelling and unmissable superhero shows on TV. And that upward trajectory continued into its subsequent seasons and made for some of Titans‘ most enjoyable offerings (thanks in no small part to the newer characters). Yes, it was still a little off at times, but when it was bang-on the money – which was particularly clear in seasons 3 and 4 – it was a gripping watch.
A show that matched the high standards of its other DC Universe counterparts when it was at its best (and this writer’s personal favorite), it really doesn’t deserve to be bottom of this list. However, as it was the only one troubled by teething issues, that automatically puts it at a disadvantage to the others – all of which had near-perfect seasons.
