Every DC Universe original show ranked from worst to best
1. DC’s Stargirl
The final addition to the DC Universe’s line-up, Stargirl caught us all off-guard because it was nothing like any of the other shows on the streaming service. Maybe that’s because it shared a broadcast deal with The CW, or maybe it was just down to the enthusiastic youthful tone, but the fact of the matter is that the show was an instant hit – one of the overwhelmingly good variety.
There is so much to love about the series that it’s hard to even know where to begin. Brec Bassinger is a delight as the young Courtney Whitmore – who is forced to move to Blue Valley by her mother and stepfather. And speaking of the stepfather, Luke Wilson is a breath of fresh air in the role, giving life to the character as he helps Courtney become a hero in order to take down the Injustice Society of America.
Stargirl thrives because it’s not afraid to present itself as a traditional superhero show at a time when so many others are trying something different. But the truth is that it’s anything but a typical superhero show. It’s very well put together in that each episode furthers the overarching narrative (instead of always relying on typically standalone villain-of-the-week plot devices to do it) and it’s also adult when it wants to be without ever crossing the line.
One of the very best shows to hit screens in a long time, Stargirl is undoubtedly the DC Universe’s strongest – and most enjoyable – original series. We’re so glad that the old guard at The CW produced two more wonderful seasons before the new management canceled it, but its perfect three seasons will go down in history as one of the greatest superhero trilogies ever told.
