10. Saw: The Final Chapter / Saw 3D

Undoubtedly, Saw: The Final Chapter (otherwise known as Saw 3D) is the worst of the franchise. The seventh movie of the series, The Final Chapter came out in 2010 and was released in 3D, a trend of the time that I’m so glad isn’t popular anymore. Kevin Greutert returned as director, with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan writing the script again.

While it’s fun to see Cary Elwes reprise his role as Dr. Lawrence Gordon from the first movie, the series as a whole is just so tired by now. The plot revolves around a group of Jigsaw’s survivors who are brought back for another game, including a self-help author named Bobby who became famous by claiming he was one of the serial killer’s victims. The premise actually sounds pretty good, but the execution just isn’t.

The Final Chapter relies too hard on the 3D gimmick and lacks originality. The characters don’t have any depth or development, and as I mention in multiple entries on this list, the series is just boring at this point. We know, more or less, what’s going to happen, and even the traps start to feel stale.

Of course, The Final Chapter didn’t actually mark the conclusion to the Saw series, with the soft reboot Jigsaw coming out less than a decade later. At least that one’s an improvement on the franchise, even if we didn’t need it to continue.

The Final Chapter brought financial success to the franchise once again, making $136.2 million on a reported $17 million budget.
