Honorable Mention: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
This writer will admit that he struggled with whether or not Joseph Gordon-Levitt should be on this list since he technically didn’t play Robin and his main affiliation with the character is essentially an Easter Egg thrown in to make fans lose their minds, but given that this CGPD officer possesses the heart of the Boy Wonder and is the result of a brilliant performance from Levitt, it would be a crime not to include him.
Officer John “Robin” Blake made his only on-screen appearance in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises – the closing chapter of Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy but he definitely made an impact on fans.
Figuring out that Bruce Wayne really was the hero that Gotham needed (and craved at this point), Blake was single-handedly responsible for engineering the return of Batman himself. Adding to that, he saved Commissioner Gordon’s life, took part in a citywide rebellion against Bane, helped rescue the stranded GCPD officers, attempted to get as many of the city’s children off the island as possible and ultimately played a pivotal role in saving the city.
Levitt was outstanding and would have made a great traditional Robin. This, however, this was as Robin as you can get without actually being Robin – and he nailed it!
