11. Evan Sabara
The Batman is one of the most underrated cartoons of all time and one of the reasons for that is its innovative approach to the recycled Batman narrative. Opting to bring in Batgirl as the Dark Knight’s first partner, it went the more traditional route later down the line and brought in Robin in the fourth season.
With the young Evan Sabara in the role, this Robin was a spunky, quirky firecracker that sought revenge on Tony Zucco but remained further away from that line that heroes don’t cross than many of his predecessors managed. Moreover, his overall youthful energy – both in the animation and in Sabara’s voice performance – livened up the show, making sure that the fourth season was one of its best.
10. Mathew Valencia
One of the few actors on this list to play a Robin that wasn’t Dick Grayson, Mathew Valencia voiced Tim Drake in The New Batman Adventures from 1997 until 2000. The spin-off sequel to the iconic Batman: The Animated Series, Valencia had a tricky job following on from Loren Lester’s Boy Wonder-defining performance, but he quickly slotted into the role with ease.
As Tim was much younger than Dick when he became Robin (or at least that’s what the animation suggests), the second Bird Boy instantly set himself apart from his predecessor. This was aided a great deal by the fact that Valencia would have only been a teenager himself at the time, so everything that came out of Tim’s mouth sounded incredibly authentic.
