The Boys: Gen V’s renewal proves it’s better than the comic and show
By Mark Lynch
Gen V’s creativity
Gen V has an advantage that Amazon Prime’s The Boys doesn’t. There isn’t a major connection to the source material. Characters like Marie Moreau, Jordan Li, and Emma Meyer were created for the show. That means the creative team can do what they want with them. Their futures are up in the air. They could become the greatest heroes of all time and protect civilians all over the world. Or maybe they turn into tomorrow’s supervillains. This writer wouldn’t be shocked if Andre becomes the latter.
The freedom of not being too connected to the comic book means different stories. So far, Amazon Prime’s The Boys has stayed close to what happened in the comic books. Main characters like Homelander, Butcher, and Hughie are too important to change too much. Meanwhile, Cate, Polarity, and Indira Shetty are allowed to be whatever Gen V requires.
With season 2 being approved, Gen V‘s unpredictability will be a draw. It could make it better than the show. Take Golden Boy’s death for example. He was promoted heavily in the trailer. Seeing him die in episode 1 was shocking. It led fans to believe that anything could happen. However, knowing how the creative team likes messing with people, he may come back.
