4. Justice League

Okay, so technically speaking, some could argue that Justice League is not really a Batman sequel; however, we’d argue they’d be wrong. Now before you jump to the next slide or bounce entirely, let me explain. While Justice League is an ensemble film, Bruce Wayne is at the center of the storyline and it’s essentially a sequel to Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Therefore, it is a Batman sequel… just not a very good one.

Following Superman’s death, Bruce begins putting together a team to face a new threat bringing together Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. In theory, this should have been an amazing moment for the DCEU. Instead, it was a major step back.

Justice League suffered from a lack of overall direction and character development, as well as a truly lackluster villain. For The Dark Knight, audiences were almost given whiplash as Bruce went from this dark and brooding figure to this optimistic and lighter character. It felt totally out of character to see Batman being the source of humor and one-line quips.

Rather than standing on his own as we know the character is more than capable of alongside the many powerful heroes he helped to assemble in forming the team, Batman was lost in the shuffle becoming a forgettable face in the crowd.
