Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen

Show: The Flash

There’s a reason that the relationship between Barry Allen and Iris West is known as the gold standard of the Arrowverse. “WestAllen”, as they have affectionately become known as, has stood the test of time (literally) and grew stronger in every way imaginable.

The pair started out as long-time best friends, but Barry’s feelings for Iris were obvious. She soon began to feel the same way, falling for him as well as the mysterious speedster known as The Flash. When she found out they were the same person, she also learned that their story was intertwined and that their love was destiny. And oh, what a beautiful destiny it was.

Barry calls Iris his lightning rod, and for good reason. She’s always there for him, grounding him no matter what outlandish threats the Scarlet Speedster finds himself up against day in and day out. She is his guiding light, his greatest strength, his superhero – and it’s easy to see why. Iris is a force-to-be-reckoned with, an incredible character, determined reporter, a supportive wife and an amazing mother.

Together, they are the perfect team, and it’s easy to see why no threat, time sickness, or even lacklustre writing in the later seasons has been able to prevent them from holding onto the gold standard title. “WestAllen” is, without a doubt, timeless.
