4. The upgraded powers

The story and the sentimental parts are all fine and well, but the gameplay is what people came for. Thankfully, everything about fighting in Spider-Man 2 has improved. At first, Miles and Peter had the option of using the mechanical arms. This was only an option in the first game if you used a specific suit’s ability. Now, it’s given to you almost immediately. It doesn’t end there. As the game progressed, so did their abilities.

We’ve all seen Miles’ powers and how cool they are. However, it wouldn’t have been fair to give Miles more abilities and not Peter. Thankfully, he wasn’t restricted to just his gadgets. The symbiote’s powers were fantastic and creative. It allowed people using Peter to have more options when fighting villains.

3. Evolve or die

Speaking of fighting, this was not an easy game. The first Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 allowed gamers to get by without upgrading too much. Not this time. If you didn’t have enough gadgets, know how to use and upgrade them, you were going to die. This meant having to play the side missions to boost your skills instead of just playing through.

This was a welcomed change and made the difference between Spider-Man 2 being a button masher or a game that requires thinking. Sometimes running into a fight head-on meant getting beaten. You have to strategize and prioritize your attacks. Do you use your sonic web on a group of symbiotes or just the big one? Are you going to use your special moves or save that slot for healing? These are only a couple of things. Be quick or you’ll be respawning.
