11 things nobody wants to admit about The Flash
6. The final season was disrespectful to the show’s legacy
The CW’s revelation that The Flash would end was heartbreaking for fans, but there was solace to be sought in the fact that it could end on its own terms (and hopefully end on a high as a result). But it wasn’t to be.
Instead of using the shortened final season as an opportunity to bring the characters’ stories to a close in a meaningful way, the creative team opted to recycle their tired old graphic novel approach (again, in a shortened final season), picking up and dropping storylines, delivering a trilogy of filler episodes between the two graphic novels, and focusing on the trio of supporting characters that fans just didn’t care for. Moreover, it decided to kill off original character Caitlin Snow without so much as a mourning period and introduce a new character named Khione (also played by Danielle Panabaker), only to bring Caitlin back in the series finale.
All of this incessant meandering left just four episodes for the final ever storyline, and the result was a mixed bag that once again fell victim to the season’s biggest mistakes, culminating in a decent-but-rushed series finale that robbed it of the emotional gravity it needed.
There are two glorious episodes in The Flash season 9 that truly remind you of the show’s glory days, but instead of being nostalgic reminders of what it once was, they stand out as the only remotely respectful parts of an unforgivably poor final season.
The Flash, its amazing cast, and the fans deserved so much better than this.
