7. Series 2

While some fans will surely argue that Series 2 is one of the best seasons in Doctor Who history, it also includes some of the most universally hated episodes. Because of this, it has to fall a little lower on the rankings than it might otherwise deserve.

Series 2 saw Rose and the Doctor at their best, with both contributing to the success of their adventures. Their romance was enjoyable, and the addition of parallel worlds added an interesting dimension to the sci-fi elements of the show. This season also saw the return of fan-favorite Sarah Jane Smith, the Cybermen, and the creation of Torchwood (leading perfectly into Davies's spin-off series).

Sadly, there are two irredeemable episodes in Series 2 that hold it back from its possible success. "Love & Monsters" and "Fear Her" were both written to be easy on the production and fun for children. However, these goals made for disappointing stories that felt disconnected from the otherwise strong season-long arcs.

Altogether, Series 2 is a great season with some episodes, like "The Girl in the Fireplace," that fans will never forget. There are just a few episodes that the show would have been better off without.
