Every boss fight in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ranked from worst to best
3. Lizard
Right from the moment players first launch Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from the PS5 menu there's one question on their minds: When will I get to play with the black suit? And the answer is: just in time to beat down Dr. Connors (both physically and emotionally, but more on that later).
The Lizard boss might be one of the most balanced fights in the game. While others may be either too easy or too difficult to beat, this one just hits the sweet spot. On the one hand, the Lizard attacks are fast and can deal a lot of damage. On the other, players will have access to the symbiote abilities and they can deal the same amount of damage (if not more) back to Connors himself. It's the best of both worlds since it makes you feel insanely powerful while also giving you a moderately difficult challenge to surpass. Well played, Insomniac.
One of the best aspects of the Lizard boss fight is how cinematic it is. Peter and Connors battle it out in the sewers before going into a frenetic chase sequence across the city. At this point, Kraven's hunters also intervene in the encounter, making for a more complex (and epic) pursuit. The cherry on top is the destructible environment, as the Lizard's newest strength allows him to tear through many city landmarks and drag both Spider-Man and a militarized vehicle up a building. The whole segment is fast-paced, violent, and jaw-dropping. You could even say it's one of the coolest moments in the game and with good reason.
The only negative aspect about the Lizard boss fight is how Peter goes from "Let me help you, Doctor Connors" to "You're a monster, no wonder your wife left you" in a heartbeat. While the dialog itself isn't bad by any means, Spidey changes his attitude so quickly that you're left to wonder at what moment the symbiote affected him so badly. Still, that's just a minor nitpick and we can't say the fight did anything else wrong. For that reason, it earns its spot in the top 3 best bosses of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and deservedly so.
