5 shows that are coming to an end in 2024
Outlander
This one is a bit of a special edition considering the conclusion might not come until 2025, but we know it's ending soon nevertheless.
Some of the biggest shows on television have announced upcoming final seasons, and arguably none on that list are as popular as Outlander. The fantasy-romance is based on the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon and premiered on Starz in Aug. 2014. It was developed by Ronald D. Moore (Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica). After nearly a decade on air, the seventh season will return at some point next year. The current installment was split up into two parts of eight episodes each, and fans are waiting for the remaining episodes to be released. After that, Outlander season 8 will mark the end of the series.
Outlander follows the story of a former WWII nurse named Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe) who somehow is transported from the 1940s back to the year 1743. Navigating her new reality is expectedly very difficult, and amid these changes, she falls in love with a man named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Claire is able to time travel through the years and puts the pieces of her life together, balancing her old life with her husband Frank and her new one with Jamie. The series incorporates pieces of history with romance and drama, making for a very gripping watch. Fans of Outlander also applaud the well-developed characters on top of the strong storytelling.
The series has been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards and Golden Globes since it premiered, and it's been a major part of pop culture for many TV lovers for years, making its conclusion all the more weighted.
But don't be too heartbroken, Outlander fans — a spinoff is in the works! Starz ordered a prequel series titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will consist of 10 episodes and will follow Jamie Fraser's parents' Brian and Ellen Fraser's love story. How exciting! Gabaldon is reportedly writing a book about his parents, though the author revealed in 2022 that she hadn't been asked to consult on the new show yet. Hopefully that's changed since then.
