7. Caitlin Snow and Julian Albert

One of The Flash's biggest recurring problems was its inability to give Caitlin Snow meaningful storylines outside of putting her in a relationship. Her arc in the first season made total sense as she reconciled with her husband's apparent death (and eventual return), but season 2 and season 3 decided to follow that up by putting her in new relationships. It all got a bit tiring.

Perhaps the most pointless of them was her season 3 romance with Julian Albert. Unlike Zoom, Julian wasn't an outright villain (although he did struggle with his alternate personality as Doctor Alchemy) but he wasn't exactly likeable either. This couple also felt like it came out of nowhere because as soon as the show made it clear it could happen, it did happen (with little-to-no build up).

Yet another plot device so that it could add more emotional depth to Caitlin's transformation into Killer Frost, it was barely able to serve its purpose because of how underbaked it was. Danielle Panabaker and Tom Felton did their best to make it work (and out of context those scenes did work), but this relationship was doomed by the show's insistence on putting Caitlin in traumatic couplings, its by-the-numbers portrayal, and just an overall disinterest in making them a strong pairing.

There was potential there, but it wasn't to be.
