UPDATED 3/3 at 10:39 am: It appears I sold Marvel Unlimited short on how many comics it allows you to take offline at one time (and someone should update the FAQ).

According to a press release from Marvel, you can download 12 comics at a time for offline reading, making this an even better value. Also, the Age of Ultron event is part of the app’s library, conveniently setting the table for another big Marvel movie next summer.

ORIGINAL POST:

Want access to roughly 15,000 digital comics from Marvel for under a buck?

You can get exactly that right now via the Marvel Unlimited app that’s available for iOS and Android devices. While the app itself is free, subscribing usually costs $9.99 a month or $69 for a full year.

But as part of Marvel’s promotions for its appearance at SXSW beginning on March 8, it’s offering the first month for just $0.99 provided you sign up before March 14. The code for the promotion is ‘SXSW99’ and full details of how the subscription reverts to regular prices after the first month can be found right here.

Marvel Unlimited doesn’t allow you to view brand new comics — you’ll have to get those digitally through ComiXology or its Marvel-branded app — but issues do get added to the library as soon as six months after they are originally released. The real value is in the access to classic back issues from throughout the company’s long publishing history, and you can even download six comics for offline viewing at any given time.

You can download Marvel Unlimited from the iOS App Store or Google Play for Android, and don’t forget the code if you’re going to take advantage of the offer.
