He might be the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but Peter Quill does things his own way. Now the whole world is about to see exactly what that entails when The Legendary Star-Lord #1 blasts off In July.

Unquestionably timed to capitalize on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Star-Lord’s very own ongoing title features all of the things he does when he’s not with the team — including battling the Badoon, saving an orphanage, and even finding some time to hit on Kitty Pryde. According to writer Sam Humphries, that’s just a typical slice of life in “the high flying adventures of a space cowboy.”

“This book is going to be Peter’s adventures untethered from the Guardians, where he gets to play a little more fast and loose in the cosmic playground,” Humphries said in a press release. “He likes to fight. He likes to flirt. He flies by the seat of his pants. This book is almost more like a Space Western. It’s about heists and cons, bounty hunters, revenge and all that good stuff.”

Humphries and artist Paco Medina are ready to deliver the space-faring goods to comic stores and digital on July 2. Don’t miss the preview pages below and an alternate cover by Skottie Young, and look for six more alternate covers from Marvel’s current group of Young Guns to make The Legendary Star-Lord #1 even more of a can’t-miss debut.
