X-Men: Apocalypse – Tom Hardy As En Sabah Nur?

I guess playing a big bad villain for one time in a blockbuster billion-dollar superhero movie isn’t enough.  Tom Hardy is now being courted to play En Sabah Nur for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.  According to The Wrap, Hardy has recently been approached by Fox for the titular role.  We’re not sure how close they are to closing negotiations, but this would be the latest comic book role offered to Hardy.  He was previously rumored to be a front runner for Doctor Strange.  And earlier this week, he was approached for a role in a Suicide Squad film.

En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse, appeared in the post-credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Born around 5000 years ago in Akaba, he’s the world’s first mutant.  Because of his strange appearance as an infant, he was abandoned by his people and then found by Baal of the Sandstormers.  Living by their code, Apocalypse believes in the survival of the fittest — hence his actions of conquering everything he comes in contact with and making civilizations believe that he’s a god.

X-Men: Apocalypse has a planned release date of May 27, 2016 and will be directed by Bryan Singer and written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris, and Michael Dougherty.  Kinberg has noted that X-Men: Apocalypse will end the current trilogy which started with X-Men: First Class.
